They developed an event called "Blind Date with a Book". A bunch of books of all kinds were chosen and wrapped in brown paper, with barcodes attached. Patrons were then encouraged to randomly select a book, and sign it out. Included with each was a "Rate your blind date" slip that allowed you to review your book and returning the rate slip made you eligibile for a prize at the end. From Maplewood's description: Will it be fiction or non-fiction? Funny, informative, entertaining, or heart-breaking? Spend some time getting to know your date. There will be no uncomfortable questions to answer, no awkward lulls in the conversation, no need to put on nice shoes (or even get out of your pajamas). Sure, you might be disappointed; but then again.... you may end up having a great time with something you would otherwise never have ventured to read.
How fun and simple is that?
